Tooth whitening has become a massive industry. Consumers have a choice between using The White Room’s cold blue laser technology, or three other main treatment types; Heat lamps (such as Zoom), LED matrices or mouth trays (gum shields).

In the past, Zoom technology has enjoyed a particularly dominant market role, due to the length of time it has been operating and due to several successful marketing campaigns. Results achieved by Zoom are comparable to the Beyond technology. However, there are several distinct disadvantages encountered when using Zoom.

Heat Bulb Treatments

Treatments such as Zoom use a heat bulb, instead of a cold, blue light, to accelerate the oxidization reaction. The heat bulb has the potential to cause sunburn over the lips, mouth and gums. It can also cause noticeable burning to the face and around the outer region of the mouth.Heat lamps do not filter out harmful UV light’

.

Treatment ComparisonDue to the potential for sunburn, preparation using a heat lamp must ensure that the whole mouth is covered by protective cotton wool or a suitable alternative. This means that preparation time is longer and the teeth whitening itself can be more difficult and cumbersome to carry out. The Beyond treatment is therefore far more comfortable for the patient.

In our experience, many heat bulb treatments tend to leave a slightly ‘chalky’ appearance to teeth. In contrast, The White Room treatment leaves a smooth, ‘glistening’ appearance. This is because the chemical , glycerine, has been completely removed from our whitening gels. Glycerine is used in some treatments because it removes water from the tooth to render a whiter appearance. This can cause teeth to become brittle and become susceptible to chipping or cracking.

Equipment such as Zoom also tends to be more expensive, increasing the overall cost of treatment.

Matrix of LED Lights

Unfortunately, there are many LED systems on the market today. The reality is that using and LED system is no different to shining a torch in your mouth and expecting your teeth to whiten!

As a consumer, it is often difficult to differentiate between LED systems. If you are considering an alternative whitening service, be sure that you choose a reputable professional. Otherwise, you may be extremely disappointed (we know, we have seen the results first-hand!)

Take Home Kits

Take home kits are not a very effective teeth whitening alternative. This is because the gel used barely penetrates the dentine layer, which is necessary for teeth whitening to occur.

Although they are useful in cleaning the enamel of a tooth, poor gel quality can cause long term damage to the teeth, in the form of acid corrosion. They can also corrode the gums, and cause itching, burning and gum disease.

The abundance of take home kits on the market, places this form of teeth whitening in direct competition with Laser Teeth Whitening. However, we have removed take-home’ kits from our product line due to the harmful damage they cause. We strongly advise against this form of treatment.

We strongly advise against this form of treatment. It is often extremely costly (upwards of 350 euro) and yields minimal results.’
